Having A Pet Can Improve Our Immunity System

Can a pet help improve our immunity system? Yes!!

Stress is a psychological problem that affects both humans and dogs and cats. The cause is the same: a body’s response to a feeling of discomfort, irritation, fear or frustration. But, after all, what does stress have to do with the fact that pets can improve our immunity? All of it!

The feeling of stress is directly responsible for lowering our immune barriers. So much so that it is common to see people having allergic reactions or catching the flu, for example, right after an unpleasant situation, and this is due to the compromised ability to fight infections and other problems in times of anger, anxiety or frustration

Pets vs Stress

One of the ways to get rid of this uncomfortable feeling is to have a dog or cat waiting for you at home after a tiring and stressful day at work. The interaction between pet and human, through an fun training or cozy moment in bed,  can help to reduce stress levels, and this helps to raise immune barriers and prevent health problems.

An American survey that analyzed more than 2,000 people, for example, pointed out that interacting with our pets releases the famous dopamine, which is the substance responsible for stimulating feelings related to pleasure and oxytocin, known as the “love hormone”, in addition to to lower blood and heart pressure and cortisol, a substance directly linked to stress.

The most common cause of low immunity, according to professionals, is stress, as our body starts to produce more cortisol in disastrous scenarios, causing the body to lower its defenses, thus causing difficulties in the immune system and leaving our body more susceptible to disease.

Your pet may help you to end your depression

In addition to stress, depression, a disease classified as “the evil of the century” by the World Health Organization, is also one of the main responsible for attacking our immune system. Luckily for us, a study by Edellman Intelligence, in partnership with HABRI and Mars Petcare, revealed that pets are great foundations to combat this problem that affects so many people around the world.

Tips for those who want to have a firm and consistent immune system: sleep well, avoid alcohol, cigarettes and drugs, eat better, exercise and have a dog or cat indoors, waiting for your caress on the couch! You can trust, few things are as pleasurable as coming home and seeing our pet happy and full of affection to give.
